Oscar Win for the White Helmets

Molinare is thrilled by the news that the 2017 Academy Award for best documentary short was won by The White Helmets team at this year’s ceremony, thus becoming the first Netflix Original project to win an Oscar.

The eponymous group are volunteers who risk their lives to rescue people injured in Syria’s civil war conflict. This film follows the civil defence group as they go about their hazardous work.

Molinare provided full post production for the forty-minute documentary which was produced by Grain Media and Violet Films.

Molinare’s factual audio team were delighted to learn about the win.

George Foulgham, Head of Documentary Feature Sound, commented: “It was an emotionally challenging film for all of the team. We had to execute a feature film-like soundscape dealing with some extraordinary sound recorded in extraordinary circumstances. We are so proud that the film has garnered the recognition it deserves.”

This is the second project Molinare has undertaken with director, Orlando von Einsiedel, and producer, Joanna Natasegara. Molinare also provided post production services for the duo’s previous Oscar-nominated film, Virunga, a feature length Netflix Original Documentary.
